Hey Reader,
I finished another book last night, The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig. 10/10 recommend. It had a slow burn romance (obviously), adventure and suspense, myth and humanity, and a talking gargoyle that made me laugh out loud.
Reading brings me joy. I honestly think I've become a happier human this year as I've put down most of my professional development reading and picked up books that whisk me away to new worlds.
I've lost count how many books I've read this year, but I think it's somewhere over twenty-five.
I've also been making friendship bracelets with my almost four-year old after school. I let her pick out a few strands of "fancy" beads at the craft store, and we've been creating the most delightful jewelry.
My favorite is the one she made that has three bear charms on it. She was insistent the one bear charm wasn't enough. The colors remind me of my great grandmother's jewelry--bright reds, and pinks, beads of all shapes and sizes. I've been wearing it every day and proudly stating, "My daughter made it for me," when anyone comments on it.
I also battled rush hour traffic every day and yet another ear infection with the littlest while solo parenting last week. But when I reflect back on the week, I feel a sense of gratitude and contentment because I had just the right amount of renewal woven in each day that I was sustained.
And that's what I hope to teach you in my next series that kicks off on October 9th.
Won't you join me?
XO

SOMATIC TIP FOR BUSINESS:
your team might be too polite
How often does your team push back in a meeting? How often does your team engage in respectful, and yet lively, disagreement?
If you responded with, not often or never, I've got bad news for ya.
Your team might be too polite, and while keeping the peace might feel good, it's often a sign of low psychological safety.
Simply put, your team might not feel safe enough to speak up, point out blindspots, or disagree with the status quo.
Here's a few questions to try on in your next meeting:
Challenge assumptions
- “What might we be missing here?”
- “If you had to poke holes in this idea, where would you start?”
Invite dissent
- “Who sees this differently?”
- “What concerns or risks do you see that we haven’t talked about yet?”
Expand creativity
- “What’s a completely different way we could look at this problem?”
- “If there were no constraints—time, budget, politics—what would we try?”
De-risk contributions
- “It’s okay if this feels half-baked—what’s on your mind?”
- “What would you say if you knew I couldn’t take it personally?
Let me know how they go!
